The Fun Elements of My Chaos

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ I have been working with Robin for about a year now. During that time she has been nothing but kind, patient, and accommodating. As someone who struggles with incredibly severe anxiety, entering psychiatry was something I was quite nervous about. However, not only was Robin kind and welcoming, she went out of her way to meet my needs through virtual appointments. During an incredibly bad week of severe anxiety, Robin stepped up and increased the length of our appointments so I could do therapy as well. Throughout my mental health journey I've seen several therapists, and I have to say that Robin is undoubtedly the best that I personally have seen. When she asks how I'm doing, I can tell that she's genuinely interested in how my week's been and how I've been doing, she's not just asking to fill out a part of some checklist. She never sugarcoats things or lies, making it truly easy for me to believe it when she says that I can get better. I know it might seem like I'm raving a bit but I just can't overstate how much this woman has changed my current life for the better. I seriously don't think I can ever thank her enough. - Amanda Kepler
sat at the café, watching the sun pour its liquid gold onto every nook and cranny. Taking a sip of my latte - which was desperately trying to mimic my energy level with its extra shot of espresso - I couldn’t help but chuckle at the irony. Here I was, Robin, epitomizing the modern-day superhero, minus the cape (though trust me, on some days I do consider wearing one!).
*This is Me, Robin* - In case the cape didn't give it away, I run a buzzing mental health practice. And just for the fun of it, I’m also a full-time student at Duke University's top-tier doctorate in nursing program. When I'm not reading textbooks or guiding patients, I'm swapping the "Super Mom" hat with "Mentor" glasses. Because, why not?
The Fun Elements of My Chaos
Every day is a fresh episode from the sitcom of my life. I ensure my patients get the best care. While I'd love to say it’s a breeze, let’s be real, between sessions I’m often Googling, "how many cups of coffee is too many?" or "can laughter replace sleep?". Despite the chaos, and trust me, there’s plenty of it, I never compromise on my commitment, be it to my patients or my assignments at Duke.
At home, I'm all about practicing what I preach. I prioritize sleep (read: I worship my bed), maintain a diet (chocolates are essential, right?), and exercise regularly (if you count running late as cardio). And in the midst of this whirlwind, I make it a point to stop and smell the roses, even if sometimes they're just on my screensaver.
My shining star, my daughter Brittany, is another saga altogether. This ambitious, occasionally sassy, young lady is the fuel to my ever-burning fire. Our bond is the stuff movies are made of – full of love, laughter, occasional disagreements over clothes, and lots of shared dreams.
The Not-So-Glamorous Side
But even superheroes have their moments. Balancing so many roles sometimes feels like I'm trying to stand on a seesaw. Perfect equilibrium seems elusive. Like that one evening, a busy day of patients, studying for a test, and trying a new crockpot recipe that looked way easier on Pinterest, I was close to becoming a puddle of exhaustion.
Brittany, with her impeccable timing, noticed and stepped in with her brand of pep talk. “Mom,” she started, rolling her eyes in the dramatic way only beautiful, loving daughters can, “remember all that talk about resilience? Yeah, time to walk the talk. And maybe, just maybe, ask for a little help?”
Her words, dripping with both sarcasm and concern, were a reminder. It's okay to lean on those around you. Especially when they offer to do the dishes.
Wrapping It Up (Not the Superhero Cape!)
My journey, with all its ups, downs, and loop-de-loops, is a testament to every woman juggling a hundred things and making it look (somewhat) easy. It's a daily reminder that while life will throw curveballs, a good laugh, a strong coffee, and some trusted sidekicks can make all the difference. So, here's to all the Robins out there, doing their best and rocking it!
